IR Keyboard & Mouse allows the user to make use of their AAC device to navigate and type on another computer.

IR Keyboard & Mouse is an accessory to AAC devices, allowing the user to make use of their AAC device to navigate and type on another computer. For example, if a user needs ad hoc use of a computer in an office or school setting which is not part of their own AT configuration, IR Keyboard & Mouse can simply be plugged into the target computer and the user may control the computer wirelessly from their AAC device.

IR Keyboard & Mouse makes use of the infra-red output that is available on most AAC devices and should be used together with the associated Gridsets/ Pagesets. If a limited number of keystrokes and/or mouse functions are required (for example to allow access to a particular piece of software), a new Gridset/ Pageset may be created and the required controls copied and pasted into it, perhaps making them larger to aid eye-gazing.

In certain situations, there may be more than one user making use of IR Keyboard & Mouse at the same time in the same room. To prevent interference, four User numbers are allowed, and provided the hardware is set to the same User number as the Gridset/ Page Set, interference-free operation is assured.

The Simple Switch Interface Set comprises of a pair of Pretorian Technologies Smoothie 75mm switches (1x Red & 1x Yellow), and a Simple Switch Interface.

Simple Switch Interface:

Simple Switch Interface is a really inexpensive switch interface ideal for use with switch operated software. Easy to use and no software to install – simply connect to a USB port on your computer, plug in one or two switches and you are ready to use programs.

The two jack sockets allow switch presses to send space and enter, allowing you to operate any software that can be controlled by these keys. It cannot be used with programs that require other switch inputs

Smoothie 75mm Switches:

The Smoothie 75 is a 75mm (3”) diameter wired AT switch, terminating in an industry-standard 3.5mm jack.

The switch has an extremely low profile and is angled towards the user, meaning that the operating surface is only 10mm above the desk at its lowest. Smoothie 75 switches do not have a flanged base, allowing unrestricted access to the operating surface.

Users who are unable to rest their hand on the switch without operating it may instead rest their hand on the desk in front of the unit and simply ‘roll’ it towards the switch when required.
