Mounting - Positioning Tips and Support

Mounting options: The AT Ultra-Light HD Switches have a ultra light touch, tactile feedback, ergonomic design, and newly updated more flexible cable [Thank you for customer feedback]. Another great thing about the Ultra-Light switch is having so many mounting options. It is possible to position these on your hand, chin, finger, cheek,
chin, ankle, wrist…

Mounting using the reusable tape

The reusable tape provided on the bottom of the Ultra light works great for those
applications that only need to lightly hold position. The surface must be very smooth and
clean of any oils, dust, dirt, before placing the switch.
The reusable tape will lose its grip over time. It can be cleaned with light soap.

Mounting using more aggressive tape or Velcro

For those applications that require the switch to be moved regularly velcro is a good choice.  If your application is more permanent and requires more holding strength you can use a doubleback tape like Scotch Extreme Mounting Tape or Gorilla Double-Sided Mounting Tape, etc.…

When using any of these it is recommended that you remove the Atec label on the bottom of the switch and use a piece of tape that completely covers the bottom of the switch. This will increase your holding power. Be sure your mounting surfaces are very clean, dry, with no oils, when placing the tape or Velcro. We at Atec use a very little amount of Acetone [too much will dissolve the plastic] on a q-tip to clean the base of the switch. Acetone is a clear, colorless liquid. It is a solvent that can dissolve or break down other materials like grease. It evaporates quickly into the air. Acetone is naturally present in trees, plants, and occurs in the body.

Mounting using screws

Using Screws is the strongest mounting option available. Screws must be the correct size and length or the switch will be damaged.

  1. The screw size is 4/40
  2. The screw length depends on your application. But, they must only extend into the switch no more than 0.2”(5mm)
  3. If you're using screws and don’t have the label on the bottom of the switch they must only extend into the switch no more than 0.16”(4.25mm).
  4. You can remove the label and use it as your 1” hole spacer guide or use a ruler and mark 1”(25.4mm) center to center..

Positioning the switch when attached to a wire

A popular way to activate switches for mouse control, driving, games, drones, etc… is
with your head, face, or chin (head array, chin array, cheek switch…). Since these are
typically positioned with an Ultralight Switch attached to an aluminum wire, here are
some basics to consider:

  1.  Bend or twist the WIRE using a tool as shown. Never grab the
switch, bend, or twist it. Something will break.
  2.  Be sure the wire isn’t bent sharply (more than 40% in an inch of
wire). Or, the wire will weaken and fail prematurely.
  3. These tips apply to all switches mounted to a wire.
